2008 started in spectacular
fashion for Rebecca with 8 top ten finishes in a row including the
following results, winning the WPGA Masters in South Africa and the
VCI European Ladies Golf Cup in Spain where
she formed a dynamic partnership with the great Trish Johnson. A
runners up in Catalonia and a hard fought 3rd place in Scotland.
But more was to come for Rebecca later in the season when she had a
fortnight to remember for the rest of her life. She was to
become a back to back winner when she won in both Tenerife and on home
soil in the English Open where she received her winners trophy from
fellow Yorkshire person Sir Michael Parkinson. Once again though
Rebecca was beset with this niggling back complaint and had to pull
out of a few tournaments, which slowed her progress. However,
she finished her season strongly by finishing 4th in the Madrid Ladies
Masters. |

Rebecca had an injury hit 2007,
but still managed to have a very good season. Although Becks didn't win a
tournament in 2007, she came close twice, getting runner up in both the Telkom
Women's Classic (South Africa) and the Open De Espana Femenino (Spain).
Rebecca also had 6 top 10 placings, which include the following: 4th at the
Pam Golding Ladies International (South Africa), 5th at the Acer Women's SA
Open (South Africa), 6th at both the Vediorbis Open De France and the Wales
Ladies Championship of Europe, 10th at both the DeVere Ladies Scottish Open
and the Madrid Ladies Masters (Spain). Furthermore adding to her top 10
finishes, she had 6 more top 20 finishes and these include: 11th at both the
Tenerife Ladies Open (Spain) and the KLM Ladies Open (Holland), 12th at both
the Catalonia Ladies Masters (Spain) and the Ladies Open De Portugal, 13th at
the WPGA Masters (South Africa) and finally 15th at the SAS Masters (Norway).
All in all, that's 14 top 20 placings, in an injury ravaged season that saw
her miss 5 tournaments!!! What would she have done without the injury? |
