Rebecca was Born at the Doncaster
Royal Infirmary on the 13th of June 1979 at 20.23 to proud parents
Mary and Eric Hudson. She is the youngest member of the family
and has three brothers who are all a lot older than her.
Rebecca was educated in local Doncaster schools, such as: Ridgewood
School, Danum 6th Form and Doncaster College. One thing that was
evident from an early age, was that Rebecca was very sporty. She
enjoyed all kinds of sports at school, but says that Basketball was
probably her favourite. The subject that she liked best at
school was Art, something she followed up and gained a national
diploma in Art and Design at Doncaster College.
Rebecca was 11 years old before
she took her first steps onto a golf course, but it was not to swing
a golf club, it was to act as a caddie for her mother. She did
not realise it at the time, but those 18 holes were to change her
life forever. She was hooked and at the tender age of 13 she
took up the game for real, joining two Golf Clubs, Wheatley (still a
member) and Gainsborough.
She took to the game quickly
and eventually missed some afternoons at school so that she could
get a round in. She became known as the girl "who had a lot of
time off school to play golf". When asked about this, Rebecca
confessed "I wasn't really that popular at school, so I didn't care
what other people thought". She had one or two close friends,
but their knowledge of golf was very limited. They were like,
"Golf? What's all that about then. Has it got anything
to do with Take That"?
Actually, to say that she picked up the game quickly was an
understatement, because by the time she was 15 she had represented
England Girls. She put this down to the targets she set
herself early on. Her first goal was to break 80 and boy was
that tough. It took her a long time but when she finally shot
79 it was a great feeling and she got really excited by her
achievement. The goals she set herself after that came quickly
and within 4 years of picking up a golf club she was playing off +4,
an achievement she is very proud of. With a lot of determination on
her part, success and honours soon followed. Here is a list of some
of her early successes.

Although Rebecca had a lot of
individual successes early on and they were all special occasions,
but her passion was representing her country, especially if she did well.
She says "nothing can beat that feeling of playing for your country
and I am very proud to have done this". "Playing in a team and having so many people on your side".
"What a
wonderful, wonderful feeling".
Now that she is a Professional golfer, she can look back on those early days with a lot
of pride. Now of course things have changed. Rebecca
says that there was no real pressure then, it was just about winning
and losing. That's all gone now and she needs to look forward, set
herself new goals and strive to achieve them. As this is now
about her living and how well she lives her life really does depend
on how well she plays the game of golf. She is determined to keep
working at her game, improving all the time. She really loves
what she does and refuses to waste this wonderful gift she has been
given.
She is looking forward to the future and she is ready for the challenge.
A new chapter is about to begin in the life of Rebecca Hudson and
she
wants it to be just as exciting as the first one....... |
